We were asked to repair a leaking downspout, the customer had no idea where the water was coming from. Odd, in most scenarios, you can clearly see where the leakages are on the elbows or outlets, etc but in this case, the answer was the actual downspout, behind the pipe.
The pipe as a piece is folded in on itself at the back to create a form of a pipe.
When downspouts/eaves are rarely maintained, the bottoms of downspouts can clog which eventually causes a build-up of water in the pipe. Fast forward a few months to winter when the water that’s still sitting in the pipe freezes, expands, and causes the pipes to deform, resulting in an ineffective downspout.
